Fisher Cats spotted at Fresh PondSubmitted by freshponder on 23 August, 2006 - 4:00pm. Categories: Community Education & Outreach We don't want to spread fear unnecessarily, but Jen Wright of the Cambridge Conservation Commission has told us that Fisher Cats have been spotted at Fresh Pond. These weasel-like animals have been known to attack cats and small dogs in broad daylight, so please be aware of your off-leash canine companions. Please see this article in the Boston Globe (August, 2005) describing concerns about Fisher Cats: http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/08/25/on_the_wild_side/?page=1 If you see a Fisher Cat or have a wildlife issue at Fresh Pond, contact one of the park rangers (Chief Ranger Jean Rogers' direct line is 617-349-4793) or the Cambridge Animal Commission at 617-349-4376. If you need help after hours, contact the Cambridge Police at 617-349-3300 (non-emergency) or 911. |
