MENDON— Dog Orphans Inc., a nonprofit, no-kill shelter in Douglas, is holding a Wine and Chocolate Tasting from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Mendon Greenhouse and Florist, 9 Hasting St.

The event is being sponsored by Gibson Kennels, a boarding, grooming, training and day care facility in Grafton. For this event, the Mendon Greenhouse will be transformed into a romantic setting, featuring fine wines, chocolates and long-stemmed roses.

Grape Expectations, a specialty wine shop at 156 Hartford Ave., Hopedale, will donate the wines and an assortment of microbrews for the tasting.

The mission of Dog Orphans is to take in abused, abandoned and unwanted dogs, making sure all dogs are provided the proper medical treatment (including spaying or neutering, vaccinations and lab work) and are bathed and groomed.

Dog Orphans relies solely on donations to operate the shelter, and the Wine and Chocolate Tasting is a major fundraiser for the shelter.

Tickets for the event are $25 per person or two tickets for $40, and are available at Mendon Greenhouse and Grape Expectations or by calling Dog Orphans at (508) 476-1855.
