From the Friends of Peters Park Website:

The day we’ve been waiting for is coming soon – the Grand Unleashing of the Joe Wex Dog Recreation Space in Peters Park! The dedication and opening is scheduled for 3:30 – 4:30 on Sunday November 4th. Please mark your calendars and plan on bringing your dog and joining us for the festivities. Mayor Menino will officially open the DRS to its first enthusiastic users, the Working Dogs, as that group won the Battle of the Breeds earlier this year and are ready to claim their prize! All dogs, large and small, are welcome at the Grand Unleashing and will have full run of the new DRS once the Working Dogs make their Grand Entrance.

The Dog Recreation Space in Peters Park now is officially the Joe Wex Dog Recreation Space.

Why Joe?

Joe Wex was a long time South End resident who cared deeply about his community, his neighbors and the ways dogs can bring them together. He was a diligent organizing force behind the establishment of the DRS and the effort to link it with the Animal Rescue League in order to promote good dog behavior at the park. His untimely death, in October 2006, happened months before final approval of the Dog Recreation Space. The Friends of Peters Park chose to name the space after Joe Wex in appreciation for all he accomplished as a committed South End dog owner and a beloved friend.
