The following Cambridge committees have spots open, and we encourage dog-friendly residents to apply to ensure that our rights and interests are well represented:

Planning Board Member Sought

City Manager Robert W. Healy is seeking persons interested in serving on the Cambridge Planning Board. The Planning Board is the Special Permit granting authority for the city, responsible for review of special permit requests, review and development of zoning proposals, and the study of land use in the city. The Board meets approximately twice a month on Tuesday evenings. Planning Board members must be residents of the City of Cambridge.

Interested persons should submit a resume and a brief letter to City Manager Healy describing their interest. Letters should be addressed to: Community Development Department, 344 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02139, Attn: L. Paden, and should be sent by October 1, 2007. Cambridge Board of Zoning Appeal (BZA) Vacancies

City Manager Robert W. Healy is seeking persons interested in serving on the Cambridge Board of Zoning Appeal (BZA).

Made up of five members and seven associate members who serve a five-year term, the BZA meets twice a month on Thursday evenings to review applications for variances and special permits in accordance with Cambridge Zoning Ordinance. Board members also act on appeals to zoning decisions made by the Commissioner of Inspectional Services.

Half Crown/Marsh Neighborhood Commission Seeks New Members

Cambridge City Manager Robert W. Healy is seeking individuals to serve as members or alternates to serve on the newly consolidated Half Crown/Marsh Neighborhood Conservation District. After a two-year study period, the Half Crown and Marsh Neighborhood Conservation Districts were consolidated into one district by order of the City Council on July 30, 2007.

The newly appointed Commission will consist of five members and three alternates, who, according to the City Code, “shall by reason of experience or education have demonstrable knowledge and concern for improvement, conservation and enhancement of the district.” At least two members must have professional qualifications related to real estate, architecture or historic preservation, and at least one other member or alternate shall have professional qualifications in landscape architecture, urban planning, law or geotechnical engineering. The Commission will meet monthly to review alterations to buildings in the Neighborhood Conservation District, the purpose of which is to protect and conserve the historic and architectural character of the two neighborhoods.

Appointments to the Commission are made by the City Manager with regard to the diversity of viewpoints in the district; minority candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
