It's time to get your dogs licensed for 2008!

Why license? Because a license provides a way to identify your dog if it becomes lost, because the more licensed dogs we have in Cambridge, the more political power we have to create more dog parks, and because the fees fund the Animal Commission, which does important work in the city.

From the Animal Commission Website:

What is a dog license and why is a dog required to wear one?

A dog license is a tag issued by the City that works as an ID for the dog and also serves to give the City a census of the number of dogs within the City of Cambridge.

All dogs over six months of age are required to be licensed in the state of Massachusetts. Dog licensing is also done for the protection of the animal.

How much does a dog license cost?

The costs are as follows:

$5.00 (neutered/spayed dog)
$15.00 (un-neutered/spayed dog)

How long is the license good for?

It is good from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.

If my dog never leaves the house/yard does it still need a license?

Yes.

Can I do it by mail?

Licensing is available by mail. You must contact the Animal Control Office and leave your name, address, and zip code. A license application will be mailed to you.

If I showed you the spay/neuter certificate last time do you need to see it again?

No, having your pet spayed or neutered is a permanent fix.

If I showed you my rabies vaccination certificate last year do I need to show it again?

No, unless it has expired.

How long is a rabies vaccination good for?

Rabies vaccinations will vary from 1-3 years. You should contact your veterinarian to confirm the vaccination status.
